Intro to 30s

Yesterday was overall a good day. I went to work and managed to spill red Gatorade on my shirt, and later wrote all over my shirt with my pen without noticing ...so that was great.

But then I got home and my friend Irish and her husband and two little boys got into town. Steve and I had my company party last night as well, so we got all dressed up and had some dinner and drinks at the Pepsi Center where the Nuggets play. We got to meet Rocky, the Nuggets mascot, then came home and the real fun began. We busted out the Wii and just had some good times til 2am! No work today, so we are just lounging around.

My friend Jenni and her husband Cody will be here tonight and we are going to play games at the house, and tomorrow is the big party.

Team Asher

My college friend Karri and her husband Denny lost their little boy Asher in July. He was a month older than Gavin and passed away in his crib at 15 months old. I think of them and Asher literally every single day.
Last night we got a package from her, Team Asher shirts with Mickey Mouse on them. We will wear them with pride. Please pray for Karri and Denny during this holiday season.

Crazy Tuesday

Yesterday I went and volunteered at Food Bank of the Rockies with a group from the office. We loaded and moved pallets of food for a few hours, then headed to work for the rest of the day.

After work, I went to my friend Shiloh and Shannon's ornament party and ended up with an adorable Santa snowman ornament after a few hours of fellowship, food and fun.

Once I got home, I saw Gavin had given himself a black eye under daddy's supervision! Steve said he barely cried and was showing it off so he could take a picture.

And lastly, my brother Nick and his girlfriend Kylee got to our house right before bedtime! They will be here til Sunday and will help us celebrate my birthday!

This morning, Buddy was hanging from the curtains. He's a crazy elf. :)

Early Birthday

I'm turning 30 on Thursday, and its going to be quite a crazy week! Tonight Steve and the kids had a little party for me with spaghetti, cake, card and presents.

I got a new iPhone 5 with a case and car charger, a couple of blazers, and a $25 gift card to Starbucks!

We also watched "a Christmas Story." We are watching a Christmas movie every night, all the classics. Last night it was "Elf." (Which is why we named our Elf Buddy). Steve and I will have to watch "Christmas Vacation" on our own, though!

Oh, and we found Buddy this morning in the candy bowl with a half-eaten Kit Kat in his hands!

Elf on the Shelf

We received a special delivery today from the North Pole! Santa sent his elf, who we named Buddy, to watch over the kids and report back to him. If you haven't heard of the Elf on the Shelf, you should google it!
I wanted to start this tradition last year, but its tricky with a split family. So I got with Paige's mom and we both went and got one so theres an elf wherever Paige is and we decided to start the tradition.

Steve's bosses boss invited us to his amazing house on Saturday for an ugly sweater party. We had fun shopping for our coordinating outfits and accessories. It was a great time!

Church Whispers

We have found a church the whole family loves. We have been going for the past year or so to Northern Hills. Steve and I love the contemporary music and sermons, Paige loves her class and her friends, and Gavin can't complain about playing and eating Cheerios with the other one-year-olds!

The past couple of months especially, the messages have really spoken to us. Each Sunday as we leave the parking lot, we talk about what we got out of the message.

This past Sunday, the pastor was saying something that Steve and I have talked about before, something we both really agree with. I was nodding to myself, and I squeezed Steve's hand. He looked over at me, as if to say "what was the squeeze for?"

I whispered, "Did you hear that?"

He whispered back, "That guy picking his nose?"

Ahh, well. At least I get him to go every Sunday. That's progress.

Christmas decorating!

We got into the Christmas spirit over the weekend and decorated. This is my favorite time of year, I have so many great memories of picking out trees and decorating while listening to Christmas music as a kid, so I make sure to make a big deal of it every year now too.

We started by going to Hallmark to pick out the kids' ornaments for the year....if you remember from last year, every year they get a Hallmark ornament of their choice. I write the year and their name on it, and when they grow up, they'll have their very own collection to start out. This year, Paige chose a Mickey and Minnie singing ornament, and Gavin of course chose a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse ornament. Steve even got lucky and they had his favorite player of all time, Walter Payton...so he got one too!

Then we had to go pick out our tree. It's a beautiful big tree and I love it! I switched up the decorations this year and did a red and silver theme with our special ornaments throughout. I think it turned out great...and Steve and I agreed its our favorite tree ever,

We also hung icicle lights outside. We had planned on eating popcorn and watching Home Alone after we were done, but it took all day, and once we were done it was bath time!

Swap Time!

My friend Jenni and I have recently been on a streak of talking a ton! I told her I feel like we are having an affair...we text first thing in the morning, last thing at night, email during the day and even send pics!

She and I met in high school when we both worked at Target...then we decided to be dorm roommates. I was her maid of honor in her wedding, and three little boys, a move to Colorado and several years later, time for each other became thinner and thinner and seeing each other happened once in a blue moon, even though she lives in Kearney and we go there all the time!

Well, I don't know what sparked it in us, but we have rekindled our flame. We have been talking mostly about fashion and beauty. I am blaming it on the fact that I'm feeling old and haven't spent much time on myself lately. Turning thirty is right around the corner so I have this new/rekindled passion for fashion and beauty...on a budget.

Well, she is big into watching YouTube for hair and beauty tricks, so I have been getting into it too. I recently watched one where two girls set a price limit and then went out and bought all kinds of makeup and beauty products for each other and uploaded videos of each other opening their gifts.

So we decided on fifty bucks each, and decided to send our favorite beauty products. It was so exciting! I got to open my box last night after staring at it for two days.

I got eyeshadows, mascara, blush, lipsticks, powders, exfoliating shower gloves, socks, a head warmer, a mask, eye makeup remover, a coffee drink, underwear, nail polish, and more!

She opened hers today....a makeup kit with lip glosses, eyeliners, eyeshadows and blushes, headbands, eye makeup remover, mascara, and more.

I definitely suggest it! I told her that we spend money on ourselves often.... we might as well make it fun and swap! So next we are going to do hair products. Ill be sure to update afterwards! If you have a friend who has similar taste in fashion and beauty as you, I definitely suggest trying a swap!

Hand-Me-Downs

I wrote this last July and just found it in my drafts. Wow, i thought time flew then....

Steve's mom, Mona, always says "They say..." this and "they say" that. She'll say "You know Stevie, they say real butter is better for you than that fake stuff." Steve makes fun of her and always says "Who's 'they'?"

Well, Mona, I'm with you!

They say time flies when you're having fun. We sure are having fun, because my baby is already going to be 4 months old on Tuesday! I can't believe it. Every day he's doing something new and he is such a happy baby.

Since he's been born, every time he grows out of a piece of clothing, we put it in a large gift bag. Well, after almost 4 months, the bag was full. Tonight I went thru all the clothes, refolded them, and put them in a box. Our first box of outgrown clothes. Our first box of hand-me-downs.

I remember buying every single onesie and outfit. I remember where we got them and I can almost tell you what day he wore each one. If it was a gift, I remember who bought it. I'm sure those memories will fade away as time goes by, but tonight, I remember.

They say to enjoy every moment, because it goes by fast. So instead of living in the past, I went back downstairs to spend time with my little boy.

I'm saving every article in hopes that some day we will be adding to our family. Although...I wouldn't mind if we had to go out and buy all new stuff....in pinks and purples!

Hello Again

I'm back!
We got our family pictures back tonight so I wanted to share some....notice the sidebar!

It's already Christmas time and I can't believe it. For Thanksgiving we had my family over and had quite a houseful! Steve was sick the entire weekend with food poisoning from lunch meat, so that was miserable. But on a good note I got the Christmas shopping done for the kids!

This weekend we plan to put up our tree and decorate the house. This big house will take quite a few decorations to make it look festive, but we are going to do the best with what we have and hit the sales once Christmas is over and stock up on decorations for next year!

I have lots of funny stories on a daily basis to share,...so hopefully I'm turning over a new leaf and will take the time to update more often. This is so fun to look back on and read about what we were up to, and I know I'll regret not writing some of this stuff down!

Prayers, please

Please pray for Steve and his family. His dad, Dave, passed away this afternoon. The kids and I will be flying out on Monday to be there with them for the funeral. Dave was a wonderful man, and he will be deeply missed. Thanks for your prayers of comfort.

April 2012

                -We kicked April off by going to a Rapids soccer game on April 1^st. We took the whole family and I had received some tickets thru work to sit in the President’s Suite. It was pretty cool!

                -On the 5^th, Steve and I went to an Avalanche hockey game.

                -On Good Friday, we left for Kearney to celebrate Easter and Gavin’s first birthday! What a fun weekend. His Mickey Mouse party turned out soooo cute. I had a cake shop in Kearney make him a big polka-dot Mickey cake, and a personal giant cupcake just for him. I also had a Mickey pinata, and we did an Easter Egg hunt for all the kids as well. My friend Kristin made a banner. The invites were precious. The whole family had personalized Mickey ears, and then I had Mickey ears for all the guests as well. We served Mickey-shaped macaroni and cheese, hot dog hot dog hot diggity dogs, and Mickey-shaped nuggets for the kids, and hamburgers for the adults. I found all kinds of little Mickey treats and toys for the goody bags, and made the bags myself. Gavin had a personalized Mickey shirt and bib also that he wore. Gavin got TONS of toys and clothes! He loved his cupcake. I only have a few pictures though, as our camera that had all the pictures is now gone. We got Gavin a swingset, some clothes, a ball Octopus game, and some books.

               -We went to church and had an Easter egg hunt with my parents, siblings and niece and nephews. The Easter bunny brought the kids some movies, stuffed animals and of course some candy!

                -The next weekend, Steve’s high school friend Brad came out to stay with us and to be a part of their other friend, Adam’s surprise birthday party. We got a sitter and a hotel room that night, and had fun with the group and stayed out way too late!

                -The following weekend my friend Kristin and her husband were in town, so I got to go have lunch with her and we got our nails done.

                -We attended a Nugget’s game.

Happy Labor Day! 

I'm home enjoying this day off with the kids. Steve is at work and I am sick! Let's just say the hands 

-on plans I had for crafts, slip-n-slide, and park, will be postponed til this afternoon....or maybe another day. Paige is having lunch and Gavin is taking a much-needed nap, so I thought I'd tell you about March.

In March we had a few exciting things happen.

                -Gavin started walking!

                -We headed to Kearney for Prom/March Madness/St. Patrick’s Day. Four of Steve’s friends and a couple significant others made the drive from Iowa to Kearney to get together. We had already planned on going since it was my little brother’s last prom, and my little sister’s first prom. So we made a nice weekend out of it. Good times!

                -My friend Megan, her husband Dave and their little girl Ainsly came out to visit some family, and we got to have dinner with them one night. Ainsly and Gavin were so cute!

                -My little brother Nick and his girlfriend Kylee came out to visit one weekend. They had a concert to go to, but we got to see them and Gavin fell in love with Kylee!

Still Here

Hi guys!

Well, believe it or not, I'm still alive! I hope to post more often....of course anything is more often than every six months!

A quick teaser of what's to come....
~Gavin started walking, turned one, is talking and into everything!
~Paige graduated from kindergarten, started playing soccer, started first grade, and has a loose tooth!
~We moved, I switched jobs (again), had a three-month visitor, took a week-long trip and had a party
~Our cameras were stolen, so I have absolutely no proof of any of this!

Recent Happenings

A lot has happened since I posted last! Pictures will have to come later. The reason I haven't posted in such a long time is because I haven't uploaded pictures. But something is better than nothing, right?
-Jorie and Brian got married. I was a bridesmaid and Gavin was the ring bearer! He wore a tux and a mohawk and stole everyone's hearts on his way down the aisle in a wagon.

-Super Bowl...we didn't do much, but we did watch!

-We bought a new car. Traded in my Volvo for a 2011 GMC Terrain....I absolutely LOVE it!

-We booked a 6-day trip to Cancun in July with several of Steve's friends and their wives. I've never been on that kind of trip so I can't wait!

-Paige turned 6!!!! We celebrated at Texas Roadhouse and Chuck E. Cheese. We got her a karaoke machine, a keyboard, cd's, shoes and clothes. She asked for "music stuff" and clothes. So that's what she got! She had a great birthday and we have some awesome pics of her rocking out with her karaoke machine. I promise I'll upload them soon (ish).

-Attended Enterprise Car Sales A-Basin ski party. My friend Jenn from work stayed over the night before and we made jambalaya (she's from Louisiana) and then rode with a couple of Steve's coworkers. We rented a snowboard, helmet and boots for me...but I chickened out. I haven't gone in two years and I was nervous!

-Gavin started saying "mama" over the weekend!! Music to my ears!

-Paige and Steve went sledding on the golf course a couple times as well!

-For Valentine's Day, we are taking Gavin to my dad and Sandra's this weekend. We got a room at the Broadmoor and plan to go have a nice dinner and drinks! Steve also surprised me and told me he got a sitter for tonight. We are either going to dinner and the Nuggets game or dinner and a movie. Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Tidbits

I forgot to post about Gavin's 9-month appointment.

He is in the 90th percentile for height still, but his weight has tapered off to the 70th percentile. And his head is perfect, in the 50th percentile. (For all you people who say his head is huge!) :)

We have had to buy more pants lately, he's in 12-month pants and 18 month pajamas because he's so tall! But his onesies for 6-9 month olds still fit him.

He's still only saying crazy words and "dadda," but the doctor did say that's because he only has his bottom teeth. He said once he gets his top teeth he'll start saying mama...which makes sense. And it makes me feel a little better. I will hold him and say "mamamamamamama" and he gives me a little grin and replies with "dadadadadadada." Little turd.

Paige is thriving in kindergarten. She has moved on to 1st grade sight words and is writing and reading as often as she can! It's pretty fun to see the changes...she's learning so much! She's still very much into music and has asked us for "music stuff" for her birthday. She will be 6 in a couple of weeks.Who knows, we may have a little future American Idol on our hands!

Steve is having an awesome couple of months at work. He's been really busy..but that's a good thing in the world of sales! The other night he came home and surprised me. He said "Get ready, we're going to dinner. The babysitter will be here in 15 minutes!" We went to sushi and enjoyed a nice romantic dinner. Very sweet!

Work for me is going great too. I'm loving it...being face to face in sales is what I've wanted for a long time and now I'm getting the opportunity. And in the process I'm becoming more familiar with Denver...after 5 years it's about time!

I'm beginning to plan Gavin's 1st birthday party. This year his birthday falls on Easter weekend, so his party will be April 7th in Kearney. (His birthday is the 9th). More to come on that...but let's just say I'm going all out...he only turns 1 once!

Staying Busy

Sorry about the scarcity of my posts. I always plan to update on the weekends but when your weekends are packed, it's tough! We haven't had a free weekend all month...but it's been fun!

Two weekends ago we had Steve's company holiday party. We got all dressed up and headed down with two other couples to the Vegas-themed party. It was fun, but we left by 10 p.m. to head back to the same karaoke dive bar that I brought my friends to the previous weekend. Steve and I rapped "Regulators" and danced the night away with our friends. It was a ton of fun!!! We definitely didn't fit in with the crown in our fancy clothes but we had fun anyways.

That following week I was in Dallas for training for work. It was good but I couldn't wait to get home!

Last Friday we took Gavin to get his first hair cut at "Pigtails and Crew Cuts". His mohawk/mullet was getting out of control so it was time. He got to sit in an airplane and was pretty funny...he didn't cry but he sure was happy and squirmy! His hair cut turned out so cute...he looks like a little man now.

Last Sunday my brother Chris and his wife Lisa from California were passing thru Denver after a snowboarding trip, so we got together with them and my Dad and Sandra also drove up from Colorado Springs for a nice meal and family time. Chris and Lisa had never met Paige or Gavin so they were excited. It's been a couple of years since I've seen them too! They have met Steve before. It was a great visit, wish we had more time with them!

Yesterday I had a bachelorette party for my friend who's getting married next weekend. My friend Nicole flew in so Gavin and I went to pick her up, went and got our nails done, and then we headed downtown once Steve got off work. We had tapas at a restaurant called The 9th Door and then headed to an 80s bar. Lots of fun with the girls!

Today we had a family day. We went to Dave and Busters for lunch and then spent a couple hours playing games and winning tickets. Paige got some candy with our winnings and Gavin got a basketball. Then we headed home and Paige and I constructed a Valentine's Day craft.

Next weekend it's wedding time! My friends Jorie and Brian are getting married and I'm a bridesmaid and Gavin is the ring bearer. I got him a little tux, he'll look so handsome!

Missing Bobo

We are still struggling with the loss of Bobo. While I was out of town last week, Steve sent me a picture of a story Paige wrote. Here's what it said:

"Bobo and Paige. I love you Bobo said Paige. We all love you said Paige, Gavin, Steve, Katie. Bobo you are my love. We all love you Bobo. Just love you Bobo."

I cried.

We will be planning a trip to go visit him soon. We were supposed to go Saturday but his new owner wasn't going to be home. So we will try again soon. :(

The 9th Annual Girls Christmas!

Friday evening all my girls arrived. McGee, Irish, April and Shiloh moved in for the weekend.

Once Steve got home we all headed to Tuk Tuk Thai Grill for dinner. Yummy! Then we headed home for some presents, CatchPhrase and champagne!

We draw names every year for a bigger gift, and then we buy smaller gifts for the other girls. I received a new scarf, tank top, socks and a safety light from April, who drew my name. I received an adorable snowman from McGee, a little wallet/notepad for my purse from Shiloh, and a homemade scarf from Irish.

I had Shiloh's name and I got her a necklace, a purse hanger, socks and an ornament. I got the other girls the same socks and ornament I got Shiloh, just different variations.

On Saturday, Steve had to work so we loaded Gavin up and headed to the mall! 6 hours later, we left the mall with lots of cute new stuff! Gavin and I headed home so he could crawl around (he was such a good boy at the mall!), and the girls hit some more stores for another couple of hours!

Then we all cooked dinner, got ready, and left the boys behind for girls night out! We tried going to the Grizzly Rose, which is a big huge country bar, but it was sold out because the Stock Show is in town. So we opted for something a little more our style...a DIVE karaoke bar! We had soooo much fun, I can't remember the last time we had that much fun. We sang (Friends in Low Places, Stay and Shoop), danced a ton, and got some awesome people-watching in!

They all left Sunday morning and it was nap time for mama!

We decided that we would switch off years between Kearney and Denver. It's only appropriate that next year, for our 10th annual, we will be back where it all started, in Kearney! Can't wait! Love you girls!

2011 Recap

Before I post pictures from the last two weekends, I figured I'd better do a recap of 2011 before it gets too far out of site!

January: We traveled to Wisconsin and rang in the New Year with Irish and Shawn. Steve turned 34. We watched the Bears lose to the Packers at Lambeau Field. Steve got to meet my dad and Sandra when we headed to their house after the game for a few days.

February: Paige turned 5! I had my baby shower in Kearney with friends and family.

March: We prepared for our baby boy. Set up the nursery, put toys together, washed, folded and rewashed and folded clothes....and waited

April: Biggest month of my life! Our sweet boy was born on April 9th. The 8th is my parent's anniversary and the 10th is my brother Ryan's birthday, so Gavin wanted a day all to himself and decided to come on the 9th! My mom, Terry and siblings came when he arrived. My dad and Sandra came a couple weeks later. We celebrated Gavin's First Easter in Kearney.

May: My sister Jenneah and her husband Alex came to see baby Gavin. They were also able to meet Paige. Steve got rid of his glasses for good and had Lasik eye surgery! My dad and Sandra made the move from Random Lake, WI to Colorado!

June: We traveled to Indiana to see Steve's family with Gavin and Paige. Gavin's first flight! I was able to meet 3 of Steve's sisters, aunt, uncle, cousin and nieces and nephews. I had met his parents before. I went back to work.

July: Gavin's baptism/first 4th of July. We traveled to Kearney where my mom's whole side of the family came to celebrate the holiday and attend Gavin's baptism. Nick, Akaela and Noelle came to stay a week with us.

August: Gavin started rolling over! My sister, her husband and their new baby Kannon came to visit! My dad and Sandra moved to Colorado Springs. We attended my 10-year reunion in Elm Creek, NE. Paige started kindergarten! Steve celebrated 10 years with Enterprise. Gavin's first Rockies/Dodgers game! April and Aydan came to visit!

September: Gavin and I traveled to Florence, AZ to spend time with my sister and her family.

October: Gavin started sitting up! Gavin's first Halloween: he was a puppy and Paige was a kitty.  Steve traveled to Orlando for a work trip. I traveled to Virginia for a work trip. Kristin and Ty visited. We attended a Thompson Square/Chris Young/Jason Aldean concert. We attended the CU/USC game.

November: Traveled to Kearney to celebrate Thanksgiving with both kids. Gavin started feeding himself! The Huskers beat the Hawkeyes!

December: I quit my job at Transamerica and started with Staples Advantage. Gavin got two teeth and started crawling! We traveled to Kearney with both kids for Gavin's First Christmas. Steve and I traveled to Las Vegas to celebrate my 29th birthday! We attended the Broncos/Bears game. We decided to give Bo to some friends.

Quick Update

Happy New Year! Happy Birthday Steve! Happy Sickness to my family!

So, we had a nice little get-together at our house on New Year’s Eve. We had two other couples over and had drinks/dinner and actually stayed up past midnight! We all said “Happy New Year!” and “Happy Birthday” to Steve…my 35-year-old!

On New Year’s Day, we got a sitter and headed downtown to watch my Lakers play his Nuggets. Lucky for him, the Nuggets won. It was a great game…and I love seeing the Lakers in person, even though they lost.

After the game we headed to a sportsbar to grab a bite to eat. About two bites in, I got hit with something. We headed home and I threw up. I was sick for the next three days! All I had to eat was crackers and Gatorade. I missed a day of work and literally thought I was going to die.

Wednesday I went back to work, and a couple hours in, Steve called and said he was going home because he was sick! When he went to pick Gavin up, our babysitter said Gavin had a stomach bug too! So the three of us have been struggling to get healthy. Today we are all back at work and feeling normal.

Just in time for my girls to get to town! It’s Girl’s Christmas this weekend! Irish, April, McGee and Shiloh are all coming to stay with us and we are going to eat, drink and be merry. I’m excited.

Oh, and Gavin now has 2 teeth! No wonder he was so grumpy with us the other day!

-I forgot to mention Gavin is crawling! He's been scooting for a couple of months but he finally figured out the leg part of the crawling motion. He still forgets he can do it though, so we have a little time before he's completely all over the place. He's also pulling himself up so we need to lower his crib mattress.

-He has a tooth! On Christmas Eve his first tooth popped up! It's his lower left front tooth. No wonder he had such a snotty nose all last week!

-Paige is back to normal and feeling better. We get her tonight so we're excited for her to see all her gifts again and get to play with them!

-One more thing...I saw a quote this morning that cracked me up, and Mom, you'll love this: "DIAPER is REPAID spelled backwards. Think about it."  :)
