The Lieth Kids Are In The House!

Last summer, Steve and I watched my younger siblings while my parents went to Vegas. We had so much fun, we wanted to do it again...even if my parents didn't have a trip to take! So I asked my mom if we could take them for a week. She said yes!

Nick is almost 18 years old...yes I know...it's crazy how time flies. He is about to start his senior year. I was the youngest in the family until he was born when I was 10. I am very protective of him and just love my baby brother to death.

Akaela is 16 years old. She is beautiful and will be a junior this year. I always wished for my mom to have another girl, as I grew up in a house with all boys! She finally came when I was 12...and I couldn't have been more happy!

Noelle is my 11-year-old sister. My parents adopted her from China 3 1/2 years ago when she was 8. She fits right in! She is thriving at school, despite the fact that she didn't speak English three years ago. She will be a sixth grader next year.

We met my parents in North Platte at my brother Kenny's house, where we celebrated Terry's birthday. Steve and I also brought gifts for Derek, my nephew who turned 9, and Shane who will turn 3 on Monday, since we wouldn't see them. Then we headed back to Colorado to start the fun week!

We had Paige for much of the week. And of course Gavin...so we had our hands full! We went to Water World one day, played a ton of Rock Band and XBox Kinect dancing, played cards, did lots of swimming at the pool and took them school clothes shopping.

It was so great to spend time with them...they're little adults now and are growing up so fast. The night we got back from returning them from Nebraska was so weird! I told Steve the house was too quiet...I missed them! They really are great kids and I made them promise me that they would come back next summer.

My sister-in-law Kristi's sister had a little boy in June. His name is Greyden. We had to put the Huskers onesie next to the Hawks onesie. You can't read Gavin's shirt, but it says "This is how I roll" and it's a Hawks stroller.
 Paige and my nephew Shane
Paige helping Terry open his gift from a us, a Husker sign that says "Man Cave." We also got him some other Husker odds and ends.
Derek, Terry and Shane blowing out the candles to their birthday trifle. That's Akaela watching.
I wish this picture wasn't blurry. Cracks me up. Paige and Noelle put on a rock show for us. Paige's face is priceless. Even funnier though, is Bo. He's yawning, but it looks like he's rocking out too.
 Noelle playing the drums
 Nick playing guitar

Noelle is on drums, I'm multi-tasking with sleeping Gavin in one hand and helping Paige play guitar in the other hand, and Akaela is on guitar.

The Silver Lining

Bad: I couldn't drink ANY caffeine while I was pregnant. I sure missed it!
Good: The fact that I can have Diet Coke and Chai Tea again.

Bad: Traffic. My 45-minute drive can easily be doubled by the tiniest accident or any precipitation.
Good: No traffic. It's a nice surprise when traffic is a breeze and it always puts me in a good mood to get to work without the stop and go.

Bad: Getting rid of my Altima. Steve said "I've never seen anyone so sad to get a new car." I just really loved that car!
Good: Getting a new car, a Volvo S40.

Bad: Steve and I only get about a half-hour together after Gavin goes to bed during the week. I have to get up around 5-5:30 (depending on how many times I hit snooze), so I go to bed at around 9.
Good: The fact that we get a whole half-hour to ourselves to catch up on our days and have some adult conversation.

Bad: Steve only gets to see Gavin for about an hour in the evenings before it's bedtime.
Good: That means I get almost 3 hours of one-on-one time with Gavin. I usually do tummy time with him to build his strength, Bumbo time, and to be honest, lots of holding him.

Bad: Only having Paige half the time.
Good: Every night after her bath she comes downstairs to say goodnight to me. She gives me kisses and hugs and tells me how much she loves me, and says "See you on Saturday!"

Bad: Growing up with my dad living halfway across the country. My whole life we have gone 2-3 years between visits.
Good:  Having my dad and Sandra here in Colorado. It’s nice to get to know him as an adult and have him be not only a part of my life, but to have him be in Gavin’s life. I’m also getting to know Sandra…they are both so generous and helpful. It’s awesome.

Bad: Poopy clothes.
Good: I love doing Gavin’s laundry. Isn’t that weird? I am very particular and no stain gets past me. I love folding his clothes after they’re clean, organizing and re-organizing his drawers, and setting out his clothes every night for Steve.

Bad: Not seeing Gavin in the mornings because I leave too early for work.
Good: The picture of Gavin that Steve sends me every morning. Sometimes he's smiling, sometimes he's not...but he always makes me smile!

Bad: Having your 10-year high school reunion 4 months after having a baby....doesn't help with the whole "trying to look good" idea. Also bad: realizing you graduated high school 10 years ago!!
Good: Reconnecting with old friends and catching up on their lives.

Bad: I haven't met my new nephew Kannon yet. My sister Jenneah gave birth to a little boy on July 10th. Gavin was the baby of the family for three whole months!
Good: I'm going out to Arizona to meet him and introducing the babies to each other over Labor Day.

Bad: The fact that my Grandpa Sue had a major stroke this year and he will never be the same. It was tough to see him have trouble figuring out who was who and forgetting things.
Good: It got the whole Sue family to get together in Nebraska when he came to visit. We also are blessed to have time with him and makes us all realize we need to make each moment count.

Bad: Having to go back to work.
Good: Having a job to go back to.

Bad: It's Friday night and I'm on the computer blogging.
Good: Knowing there's nowhere else I'd rather be. Just put Gavin to bed, Charlie is curled up next to me, and Steve and I are about to watch a movie.

Bad: The negative things in life.
Good: Finding the silver lining in it all.

Pregnancy and Birth (Long Post!!)

Here’s a novel about the event that changed my life J Sorry for the length, I am writing this just as much for myself as I am for you, before I forget it all!

We found out early last August that we were expecting. It was quite the shock and it took a while to sink in, but once it did we were excited! I didn’t have any morning sickness and felt great! All of our appointments went great, other than we didn’t like the doctor or clinic I chose. At about 17 weeks I started having contractions, so I had a brief stay in the hospital just to check on everything, and they ended up doing an ultrasound and we found out early that not only was everything fine, but we were going to have a little boy!!!

I was ecstatic. I had a feeling from the beginning that it was a boy. Steve was also so happy. All of his friends have girls, so he was convinced he was going to have another girl. But I told him, all of my friends have boys and boys dominate in my family too, so I was sure it was a boy. And I always win…. J

We switched doctors from that point on and were very happy with that decision going forward.

In October, we told Paige that she is going to be a big sister. She was beside herself and sooo excited. For the next several months, we heard “baby brother” this and “baby brother” that. She would come home from preschool with cards and pictures and letters for her brother, it was so precious. There was not a tinge of jealousy at all.

In February, we traveled to Nebraska for my baby shower. We brought Paige and I bought her a big sister book, shirt and a little brother doll to open at the shower. My friend Kristin also bought her a big sister badge that she wore and she got to sit at the front and open presents with me. I wanted to make sure she felt like she was a part of everything. We also had her help us put his crib together and do all the shopping for the furniture and necessities. That definitely helped.

As March came and went, I was beginning to be really impatient. I wasn’t due until April 12, but I was convinced I was going to have him early, so I was just waiting and waiting. At my 39-week appointment, when the doctor told me I was only dilated to 1 and 40% effaced, I was devastated. She prepared me for being induced, and said that we would schedule it for a week after my due date. I couldn’t imagine being pregnant for another two weeks. Not that I was miserable, I was just so ready to see my little man!  That was on April 6th.

On Friday, April 8, I went and got my hair done. I had planned to wait until after he was born, but I thought, since I’m going to be pregnant forever, I better just go get my hair done! That night, Steve and I went and saw “Limitless” in the theaters. The timing couldn’t be better. On my last night ever before motherhood, we went on a date!

Saturday morning, April 9th, at about 3 a.m. I started having mild contractions. I had downloaded an app on my phone that times and averages contractions, so I laid in bed and let Steve sleep and timed them for 3 hours. Finally, at 6, I realized I might really be in labor! I wasn’t yet too uncomfortable…I was really excited. I woke him up, called my mom, and took a shower. We took our time, ate breakfast, got ready, and when the contractions didn’t stop, and started getting closer together and more intense, we finally called the doctor. That was at about 8 a.m. She asked me several questions and then asked me to head to the hospital! We packed up and arrived at the hospital at about 10:30 a.m. My mom and little sisters were already halfway to Denver J

When we arrived, a nurse came and got us from the emergency room. On the way, Steve made small talk and we laughed and joked around the whole way up. She showed us to our room, which was huge! Shortly after that a new nurse, Kathy, came and introduced herself to us. She said “Sandra (the other nurse) came and said ‘I like them, so I gave them the good room!’” Apparently, we had the best room with the best view…she told us she always knows when Sandra doesn’t like a couple, because they get the small room with no window. Word to the wise…be nice to the nurses!!

Kathy was awesome. She checked me, and I was still only at a 1 and 40% effaced. She said she called my doctor and was told that if I wasn’t at least dilated to a 2 by 12:30, two hours later, to send me home. By this point, my contractions were very close together and I was pretty uncomfortable. I did not want to go home. Kathy told us she would do everything she could to make sure I didn’t go home, because she could tell I was in labor. She had us walk the halls for an hour, then I soaked in the tub for an hour. The walk was a little embarrassing. I kept having to stop and hold on to Steve during contractions. I was breathing thru them, but people kept asking if I was alright. I wanted to ring their necks. What does it look like I’m doing here people? Move on with your business and let me handle this! LOL.

The two hours went by and it was game time. Kathy came in and I was praying and praying that I had progressed enough not to be sent home. She checked me and Praise the Lord, I was at a 2. We were there to stay, and the epidural was on its way!

The epidural placement went smoothly, and my mom and sisters arrived right afterwards. The problem was, it wasn’t working on my right side. By this point I was having contractions every 3-4 minutes, and I could still feel them. They kept having my lay on my right side to help with it, but my right side never fully went numb the way my left side did. But it did get better.

The rest of the day was pretty uneventful, I was slowly but surely dilating. I felt bad for Akaela and Noelle, they were there all day, evening and into the night. Most of the time they were in the waiting room watching movies, as Steve of course had sports on in the room.

There were a few scares, Gavin’s heart rate kept dropping during contractions…so all the nurses would rush in, turn me over, give me oxygen, then leave. They broke my water in the evening…I’m a little hazy on what time. After that, Gavin’s heart rate dropped again so they put a tube back in me and started pumping water back in…which was really weird and nothing I had ever heard of. But it seemed to help.

The other thing they did that I had never heard of was “laboring down.” They had me sit up with my legs crossed for about a half hour after I had reached 10 centimeters and 100% effacement. They said this would bring him down and would help so I wouldn’t have to push as long.

At 9:00 p.m., they had me push. It was such a good one that they stopped me, called the doctor, and had her rush to get in. I only pushed 4 times, and Gavin was born at 9:39 p.m. That’s when the chaos started. My mom and Steve were in the room and they have trouble describing the amount of water that came out….after they pumped me back full of all of that water, it had to go somewhere! They said the doctor had boots on up to her knees and they kinda chuckled to themselves when they saw them, but that it’s a good thing she had them on because she sure needed them! Then, when Steve cut the umbilical cord, blood spurted across the room and hit me in the forehead! I didn’t care though, I wiped it off and said give me my baby please! J

They put Gavin on my chest briefly then whisked him away to clean him off. That’s when we all got nervous. We hadn’t heard him cry or make a peep yet. Nurses rushed in the room, and I could see my mom and Steve’s face as they did everything they could to get him to breathe. The looks on their faces were terrifying for me to see. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, my little man screamed. It was the best sound in the world. Relief came over my mom and Steve’s faces, and they finally were able to breathe as well!

He was a big boy! 8 lbs, 1 oz and 21 ¾ inches. We named him Gavin David Linville. Gavin is a name I’ve always liked, and we debated between it and Landon the whole pregnancy. David is Steve’s dad’s name.

I can’t believe it has been almost 16 weeks since that day. I can’t imagine life without him. It’s so cliché to say how amazing motherhood is, but man, it really is. I can’t get enough of him and I live for my drive home, when I get to pick him up every day. Every morning I have Steve send me a picture of him since he’s still asleep when I leave for work.

Paige has still not showed one ounce of jealousy. She is the best big sister…she just adores Gavin. She’s a great help too! She helps with diaper changes (by handing us the diapers and wipes, not actually changing the diaper), baths and his binky.

Steve often gets weekdays off, and the other day he was home with the kids. He sent me a picture of Gavin on his activity mat, Paige playing with him, and both dogs sitting there watching. I replied with “I love our family!” And I do. So happy.

Mommy and Daddy excited for the arrival

Steve made fun of me all day for texting. I was giving people updates through contractions, epidural, oxygen mask...

First Post!

Hi there!

So, I decided to get back on Facebook for about 4 hours....then decided maybe I'd try blogging again. Now that I have a family I thought people might actually want to see and hear about what we're up to!

I'll run through the list and how everyone's doing and hopefully not neglect this blog for months on end.

Steve is busy with work lately, he's coming up on his 10th anniversary at Enterprise! He's so old :) He got Lasik eye surgery earlier this summer and I'm finally used to him without his glasses...he looks great! He's gearing up for football season and excited to dress his boy up in all the Hawkeye and Bears gear he can get his hands on! ....And don't worry, I'll be sure to throw in some Huskers gear too when he's not looking.

I'm busy back at work as well. I've been with Transamerica now for almost 3 years. I don't love it but I am grateful for the job and blessed with good pay. I'd be happy to find a job closer to home, as I drive about 45 minutes to an hour each way every day, but for now things are good. Trying to get used to being away from Gavin every day, which is definitely not fun. But I'm hanging in there!

Paige is 5 years old and will start kindergarten in a few weeks! She is excited and we already started our school clothes shopping. She picked out a Smurfs lunch box that I would have loved when I was a kid! Funny how some things stay popular. She is into Disney Channel, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift and anything musical. Such a girlie girl...and an extremely proud big sister! She loves her "Gavie," as she calls him.

Gavin is almost 4 months old already. I can't believe how fast time is going since becoming a mommy. I am truly loving every minute of it. He is a very good baby...super smily and a GREAT eater! He's getting super chubby too. We will find out at his 4 month appointment how much weight he's gained, but at his 2 month appointment he was in the 90th percentile for weight and 60th for height. He's talking a lot and trying to figure out how to roll over. I could go on and on.... :) He was baptized a few weeks ago back in Nebraska and was able to meet his Great Grandpa Frank, my mom's dad. It was great to see the whole Sue family!

Charlie (our Cairn Terrier) is going to turn 2 on Sunday! He's the 16-pound little man of the house. He loves watching the rabbits on the golf course and dreams of one day catching one. Bo (our St. Bernard) is our 120-pound big baby. He is very jealous of affection and loves to be right in there if someone is getting kisses. Both dogs are very good with Gavin, they know there's something special about him and not to get too close. Bo will be 2 in October. They're the funniest dogs...we compare them to Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwartzenegger in the movie "Twins." :)

My mom and Ter are doing great, we got to spend some time with them this summer so that's good. We also took a trip to Indiana to see Steve's family. I hadn't met his sisters yet so I got to meet Debbie, Jill and Kasey and their families. I also got to meet his uncle Steve who he was named after. It was great to meet them all and see where he got his personality from :)

My dad and Sandra moved here to Colorado in May! They came out to visit after Gavin was born and decided to move on out. They are currently living just a few minutes away but they just bought a house in Colorado Springs so they will be about an hour and a half away. But it'll be great to see them more often and they've already been a great help with the dogs and Gavin.

I'll post soon about my little siblings Nick, Akaela and Noelle coming to visit us last week.

Here are some pics from our trip to Nebraska.
